Measurement:

Grade two's tell time to the quarter-hour on analogue and digital clocks.

Grade three's tell time to the 5-minutes on analogue and to the minute on digital clocks.

Students need to be able to use the words:

  • a quarter-after
  • half-past
  • a quarter-to
  • o'clock
  • (five) minutes after eleven, (ten) minutes after twelve, etc. (grade three)
  • numbers one to twelve in words (grade two)
  • numbers one to fifty-nine in words (grade three)
  • use numbers (e.g. 3:15)

Usually, "a quarter to ____ " is the most difficult time for a student to recognize because they have to anticipate the next hour

Students should pay attention to the position of the hour hand as it moves throughout each hour.
